Colossians 2:6-7

Please pray for understanding and answer the following questions.

1. It seems as though verse 6 is saying, “in the same way” that we received Jesus, we should walk in Him. In what “way” did we receive Jesus that gives us a clue as to how we should walk in him.

2. We see this phrase elsewhere in the Bible – “walk in”.  Walk in good works (Eph 2:10), Walk in Love (2 John 1:6), and walk in the Light (Rev 21:24). “Walk in Jesus” can be phrased “Conduct your life in the sphere of Jesus, so as to be characterized by Jesus.” Explain what this looks like practically in your life.

3. In verse 7, “Rooted” reflects the beginning of a building project in which a deep foundation would be laid for structural support. Then the term “Built up” refers to the process of building on top of a foundation that has already been laid. These processes are required to take place “In Christ.” Finally we are said to be “established” or “confirmed” in the faith. We can easily visualize what this process looks like for buildings, but what does it practically look like for believers or a gathering of believers (a church). See 1 Cor 3:5–16 for additional understanding.

4. Why is gratitude so important in the process of growing in the faith? Explain ways in which you’ve felt the blessing of gratitude.
