Our Values

Meeting in Homes

Our desire is to be faithful to God’s commandments to love and serve each other. We believe the larger a congregation gets, the harder it is to obey those commands. In light of this, it’s our desire to maintain intimate home fellowships with limited group sizes. – Galatians 5:13, Romans 12:10, Acts 2:46, Hebrews 10:24-25

Devoted to Scripture

Each meeting’s discussion or teaching is centered around Scripture. Although we don’t necessarily have a conventional sermon each time we gather, we’re very much committed to God’s written word. Obedience to His commands gives life, and we can know Him greater through Scripture. – 1 Timothy 4:13-15, Psalm 19:8

Simple Meetings

Our desire is to meet with the Lord and allow Him to guide our time together as we engage in prayer, songs of praise, simple Bible reading and discussion. You may be surprised how powerful and exciting it can be to sit in a room pursuing Jesus with other believers even without a projector, concert or a dynamic sermon. Although those things can be beneficial, they can also prove to be a distraction. – 1 Corinthians 14:26

Family-Centered Meetings

We believe that it’s important for families to worship God together. We allow parents to decide for themselves if they want their children to stay with them during the singing, prayer and message times. Youth are strongly encouraged to participate and be engaged with the adults in each aspect of our gathering! – Deuteronomy 6:4-9

ValuING Each Member

Our desire is to be a fellowship where each member feels valued and has an opportunity to share whatever gifting the Lord has given him/her. Scripture teaches us that each member is given a unique gift and a manifestation of the Holy Spirit, therefore we try to format our time together in such a way that each person is able to and encouraged to participate as he/she feels led. – 1 Corinthians 12:4-12

LovING the Lost

We desire to be a light and a blessing to our community, sharing the love of Christ with the lost through community outreach, support of local gospel-centered organizations, and loving the homeless around the Charleston area. We are also blessed to be able to support a number of missionaries serving around the globe in both open and closed countries. – Matthew 5:14-16, Matthew 28:19-20, Hebrews 13:2-3

What to Expect

When you come to a meeting at life fellowships, you’ll experience a very laid back meeting. We have no expectations about dress, except that we honor God and others by what we wear. We spend time talking about what’s coming up, and we spend a time seeking the Lord through song and prayer. Most often we have at least one individual who leads in song with a guitar.

Most recently, we’ve begun a daily Bible reading plan together as a church family. Our reading schedule is posted here. As we come together, we will be discussing the passages of the Bible that we have read in the past week. Each member will be encouraged to read and journal so that he/she has something to share with the group. Men who have been attending Life Fellowships are placed in a rotation for leading each discussion. It’s up to their discretion how they’d like to lead. Sometimes, they may lead through teaching a portion of Scripture. Other times they may lead through asking a series of discussion questions.

Parents with younger children often allow their children to play upstairs with the other children. Teenagers and other mature children are strongly encouraged, but not required to be engaged in the weekly reading as well as the discussion. Often times, they will contribute by asking questions or providing insight.

We don’t eat together every time that we gather, but we try to have a potluck once a month.

If you’re curious about our doctrinal statement, it can be found here. We hold fast to Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, crucified and raised bodily from the dead. He is the only source of salvation for humanity.  We are saved through faith in Him. Apart from this, we don’t expect every member of Life Fellowships to agree 100% on all points of doctrine. Instead, we believe that as we choose to love one another despite our differences, the world will see God’s power displayed in us.
